Cutest Snowmen Ever

Lightly Felted Knit Snowman

I showed you these little guys 2 years ago, and just couldn’t resist bringing them back.  The pattern works up quickly, and involves light felting, for a tight knit look.  I used seed beads for the eyes, and a simple crochet hat and scarf on the bigger one.  I opted for earmuffs on the lumpy small one.  I can’t take it, they are so adorable.  I just stare at them.  Grab the free knitting pattern over at knit picks.  Warning:  making these things can be addictive.

3D Snowman Framed Art

Let it Snow Christmas Wall Art

Oh my, I am loving these paper spheres.  Here, I showed you garland made from stringing them together.  Today, I will show you how to make this precious snowman framed winter art.  This is a quick, easy project, perfect for those last minute Christmas gifts to check off of your list.  Can we say frugal?  Absolutely.  Pop on over to the dollar store and get some 8×10 frames.  Aside from that, all you need is paper, a printer, glue and some circle paper punches, or some other way to cut precise circles in 3 sizes.

Christmas Paper Decorations

Instructions:

Cut out 3 circle sizes for each ball of the snowman.  You will need 12 of each size.  I used 3 circle punches: 1 inch, 1.75 inc and 2.8 inch.

Fold the circles in half.  If you are using patterned paper, fold so that the patterned side is inside.

DIY Christmas Decor

Start gluing flaps of circles together until you have glued all 12 for each size:

Handmade Christmas Decorations

Once you have all of your snowman balls ready, print this file from Printable Decor onto 8.5×11 inch paper.  It is the “Let it Snow” text and the snowman hat and arms.  I used scrapbook paper, light blue with snowflakes for a wintery background and a snowy red for Christmas.  Keep in mind that if your circles are much different in size than mine, you will need to adjust the size of the background graphics.  I made mine for an 8×10 inch frame.

Glue your half spheres onto the paper, lining them up with the hat and arms of the snowman you just printed onto decorative paper.  Frame and hang!  You are obviously not going to put the glass in when you frame it since you want your snowman to be 3D.

Dollar Tree Snowflake Garland DIY

How to make snowflake garland

This project takes about 20 minutes and costs about $2. The glittery white plastic snowflakes are available from the Dollar Tree (got mine this morning) in packs of 10 for $1. I grabbed 2 packs since I wasn’t sure how long I wanted my garland to be. The strand pictured here uses 12 of the snowflake ornaments, some jute string and that is it!

Snowflake garland how toI just looped the jute around a spindle on each snowflake and hung them over the pine I already had on my mantel.

Plaid Painted Pumpkin

How to Decorate For Halloween

Are you as obsessed with decorating pumpkins as we are here at SBLC?  What a fun time of year for creative festivity.  There are some amazing painted pumpkins circulating out there.  I was inspired by some of the plaid painted designs to create my own.  Grab some painters tape and join me!

Supplies:

Painters tape, pumpkin, acrylic paint in colors of your choice

Instructions:

Tape off stripes and paint!  I just randomly placed my stripes as I went.  No plan.  You may want to have a plaid pattern in front of you for inspiration, or just wing it.  When you switch colors, make sure the paint is dry before applying tape over it.  I used my handy heat tool to speed along the drying process.  Simple as that!

What do you think.  How are you decorating your pumpkins this year?

Dimensional Polka Dot Pumpkins and Fall Porch

No Carve Pumpkin Decorating

Not all unintentional crafting outcomes are craft fails.  Sometimes they are happy accidents.  Here, I had planned on using vinyl paper punched circles as stencils to create black pumpkins with orange polka dots.  However, my circle paper punch kept snagging on the vinyl, cutting choppy and irregular circles.  This led to my unplanned,  but loved,  dimensional dot pumpkins.   Tutorial below!

Supplies:

  • Pumpkins (I used craft pumpkins from Michaels)
  • Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint by Rustoleum, or color of your choice
  • How to Paint PumpkinsCircle dimensional stickers – I think I got mine at Michaels, but I am sure they have them anywhere there are stickers.  They don’t have to be cute, just puffy.  You are spray painting over them.

Instructions:

  • Apply dimensional stickers in desired patter onto clean, dry pumpkin.
  • Spray paint entire pumkin and enjoy!

No Carve Pumpkin Decorating

The orange crackle pumpkin I made using the technique I showed you here.  The urns are plastic and came from Lowes for $6 each.  I spray painted them with the same black I used on the dimensional dot pumpkins.

Some window bunting from Halloween patterned cardstock, and harvest bomb is now complete.  The girls love their front porch, and aside from a brief unpleasant encounter with the parking police, I had a blast.  Before and after…
