Polymer Clay Day 62: Tye Dyed Circle Triangle Joy Pendant

I love polymer clay because of how forgiving it is, which lends to mess-ups being transformed into something completely unintended and beautiful. This is in no way what I set out to make today. I dig it just the same. Don’t forget about my giveaway (here)! I promise more clay tutorials. I am going to try to do at least one a week. If there is anything you want to see, I am all ears.

Polymer Clay Day 59: Faux Jade Altered Art "Cherish" Pendant

Don’t forget to cherish each moment and make sure everyone you love knows you love them! A grateful heart resides in a peaceful soul. Thank you for reading my blog. Now, go shine your light 🙂

Polymer Clay Day #56; Circle Triangle Pendant Using Cool Stamp Technique

I am thrilled to have found triangle cookie cutters on Ebay. Every craft store I searched had every shape except triangles. This is a big deal for someone like myself, who cherishes the Alcoholics Anonymous circle triangle symbol, which you see in many of my pendants. They came in the mail today, along with a deeply etched rubber stamp, needed for what I wanted to do with the triangle. I used the technique detailed in this awesome tutorial by Ponsawan Sila, a clay artist I refer to often, cause she rocks. Here is the tutorial. While I just used the technique on the triangle, she makes a really awesome pendant. It is definitely worth checking out, and is on my to do list.
20 mile run in a heat advisory today. I know better. Tomorrow when I emerge from my coma, I will write about the experience on my running/sober blog, here.
More tutorials on clay coming. Time to share what I am learning. If there is anything in particular you would like to see a step by step on, speak up. Blessings…

Polymer Clay Day #45: Lava Bead Tutorial and Lava Love Pendant With Matching Earrings!

This pendant is one of the final projects in which I incorporated the lava beads detailed below. My inspiration for this tutorial came from Ponsawan Sila’s lava bead tutorial here. I have mentioned her blog before. She has some wonderful polymer clay beads and free tuts. Here is how I made mine (click to enlarge)…
Ponsawan mentions using acrylic paint after the beads are baked for color and shine. Hers look cool done that way. I love the bronze color I mixed, so I didn’t go that route. I did spray the cured pieces with varathane by Rustoleum. Be careful when finishing clay pieces. Some finishes will react with the clay and cause the piece to soften months down the road. There are tried and tested finishes that can be used. Future Floor Finish is a good one, and it is cheap. I prefer sprays, and the Rustoleum has been tested to at least a year out with good results. The shine it imparts is brilliant. It is my favorite!

Tuesday Tag-Along

Polymer Clay Day #39: Green and Orange Cherry Blossom Pendant

It should be illegal, how much fun I am having with clay. How awesome is it that I can combine my love (obsession) for stamping with polymer clay? Happy crafter alert. The earrings were super fun to make too. The green bead is from clay, the rest are czech glass beads. What do you think? This medium is uber forgiving, and cheap. I am on day 39, and I have yet to have a complaint. I thought this was going to be a difficult challenge, but I am digging it so far. Tomorrow is moving day. Argh. I have officially packed my crafts, clay and all. Sigh. It had to be done. First priority upon arrival to new home… craft room.

Polymer Clay Day #38: Aqua Granite Bead Embellished Grace Pendant

Grace: an unearned gift, without which I am sure I would have self destructed. One of my favorite parts of the Bible is Ephesians 2:8-10 – For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
This was explained to me in September of 2009 and was a huge part in me coming to Christ. I love that God saves us not because of anything we have done. A free gift that I can’t strive for, compete for, use to feed my ego. Brilliant.

Polymer Clay Day #34: Shimmery Turquoise Dove

Another custom order – my first experiment with bordering a piece. Loving it. On an unrelated but exciting note, I was featured at Infarrantly Creative, here. Short and sweet entries for the next week, as we are moving. The up side is that some serious home decor tutorials are in the near future as I transform our house to home. Stay tuned!

Polymer Clay Day #33: Father, Spirit, Son Cross Pendant

This is a custom pendant. First time I have used embellishments in the clay piece. See the three crystals? Father, Spirit, Son. Remember to make sure the embellishments are bake-able, like glass or metal instead of plastic. Plastic in oven = Bad. I figured out a solution for the imperfections I inevitably get on the backs of my pieces. Texturizing them instead of leaving them smooth blends any fingerprints or gashes right in. Brilliant.

Polymer Clay Day #32:Zebra Print AA Circle Triangle

The thing with canes is… they are kinda big. And since I am moving, not real into starting big new canes. What I am saying is… get ready to get your zebra print on, friends. Good thing it is a print I find pleasing. Have a rock out day.

Polymer Clay Day #31: Zebra Print Cross

Time for some cane work. This was not as difficult as I had imagined it to be. Really. Here is a great site for intro to the wonderful world of canes. Now my mind is running wild with ideas. What a wildly addictive medium clay is.
