Aluminum Can Easter Egg Wreath

It’s no secret that I love to transform recycled aluminum cans into home decor and jewelry. This aluminum can Easter egg wreath fits that bill. See how I used a new Sizzix die and Tim Holtz Distress Paint for this colorful and unique recycled can spring decoration!

SUPPLIES:

Recycled aluminum cans

Sizzix Framelits Die Set 10PK – Egg

Embossing folders of your choice

Tim Holtz Distress Paint

Foam Mount Adhesive Squares

Sandpaper

Wreath Form

TUTORIAL:

Cut your cans into sheets like I show you in the aluminum can rose pendant video:

Emboss the sheets in your favorite folder, then cut into egg shapes using Sizzix. I cut 2 egg sizes. It doesn’t matter exactly what size, as long as you have one bigger and one smaller size.

Paint eggs with Tim Holtz Distress Paint. This is the first time I have used this new product. It is pretty awesome. It is great for metal, such as cans! Unlike alcohol inks, which you have seen me use on cans in the past, the distress paint is opaque. I love the color palette too! There is a chalky kind of look to the finish, which is fabulous.

Sand once paint is dry to reveal aluminum can color on raised areas of embossed/painted eggs.

Arrange eggs and adhere to wreath form as shown, using foam adhesives for varying height of eggs compared to one another.

I am loving it! It is staying up until fall.

Knock Off Craft Store Easter Wreath

I saw this wreath a Joann’s a few weeks ago and decided I could make one. Had I thought it through, I may have just bought theirs with a coupon, but where is the challenge in that? I used a 16 inch grapevine wreath that I picked up along the way somewhere, some moss I believe I got at the dollar store, and speckled eggs from Joann’s. My trusty glue gun holds it all together. I kinda love it.

Duct Tape Wreath

Hello all! My name is Angie and I blog over at The Country Chic Cottage. I am so happy Johnnie asked me to guest post. I am tired of winter already, aren’t you? I decided to make a new wreath but put a happy spin on it. We could all use a little cheer when we open the front door don’t you think? And yes I am in love with duct tape lately. My duct tape flowers wreath uses duct tape to create a simple, happy wreath that you can enjoy into the spring and even the summer.

Start with any picture frame (mine was already covered in some white fabric). Add in some colorful fabric and duct tape and you are ready to get started.

Tear your fabric into strips and wrap around your frame. Cover the frame completely then use a dot of hot glue to secure the end of your fabric.

Now it is time to break out that duct tape. We are going to start by making a duct tape flower. You will need a small square of duct tape plus one long strip.

Fold your long strip over about 2/3 of the way as shown below. Also as shown below, it does not have to be perfect. 🙂

Gather your long strip onto your square as shown below. Continue wrapping around and around until you run out of strip. The longer the strip, the closer to the outside of the square you can start, and the larger your flower will be.

You will end up with a gathered flower something like this.

The back does not look as pretty but we are not worried about that! Note that if any of your “square” peeks out around the edge of your flower, just fold under to hide it.

Now attach those flowers to your wreath with hot glue.

I also added a couple of buttons to the center of my flower. They added just the right amount of bling.

Now we need to make that duct tape “Welcome” banner. You will need string (I used baker’s twine), duct tape, and foam letters.

Start with a square of duct tape and fold it into a point as shown.

Then fold the sides of your square in to make a mini pennant flag.

Add your foam letters to each pennant flag.

Tie the baker’s twine onto your wreath. Add the flags by folding the duct tape over the baker’s twine and securing the flap with hot glue.

It is really that simple! Add a cheerful touch to your front door with this duct tap flowers wreath. You know you could use a little cheer during these dreary months.

DIY Felt Wreath for $1

When I saw the huge red and green felt stockings at the Dollar Tree, I just knew I had to make another poinsettia wreath. This wreath was made with one stocking and a wreath form which I cut from a leftover box. So yes, it cost $1! Felt can be expensive, and this is a fantastic way to get a lot of it, in Christmas colors, for next to nothing. This particular felt makes a gorgeous flower. I bought three of the stockings and am busy making more of these gorgeous wreaths for Christmas gifts.

SUPPLIES:

Dollar Tree Stocking

Sizzix and Poinsettia Die

-OR-

Poinsettia template to cut felt by hand, like this free one from Eri Doodle

Straight pins

Wire Cutter

Cardboard box

2 circular items to trace onto cardboard to cut out a donut for your wreath form

Scissors

Pen or marker for tracing onto cardboard

Tape

TUTORIAL:

Trace plate or whatever circular items you have onto cardboard and cut out wreath form like I showed you previously:

Wrap your cardboard donut with tape to reinforce and protect.

Cut your poinsettia petals and leaves with your die or template. Assemble flower and use straight pin to stick onto wreath form. For detailed flower assembly, see my paper poinsettia wreath post. The process for felt is the same, but you don’t fold and shape the leaves like you do with paper.

You will likely have excess straight pin sticking through the back of your wreath. Carefully trim flush with wreath form using wire cutters. Wear eye protection for this part!

Make a Felt Poinsettia Wreath

This Sizzix Poinsettia petals die has gotten quite the workout from me lately. I love the paper and the aluminum can version, but there is nothing quite like a felt flower wreath, in my opinion. For this project, I did the same thing I showed you for the paper poinsettia wreath, except instead of gluing the petal layers, I stuck a pearl head pin through them to hold the flower together.

I didn’t have another styrofoam wreath form, so I traced a small plate inside a large plate onto some foam board and cut out a DIY wreath form. I wrapped it in duct tape for strength and durability.

I used wire cutters to trim the excess pin from the flower center that stuck through the back of the wreath.

I used a gold wired ribbon to create the bow, and stuck it on with hot glue.

This one is currently in a box, on it’s way to spread holiday cheer to a home in Texas! I will miss it.

Z Gallerie Inspired Dollar Store Winter Wreath

This wreath was inspired by the Z. Gallerie silver magnolia leaf wreath that I fell in love with, but not $70 in love with. More like “make my own version for $10” love, is what it was. I had the spray paint, primer, wreath form and ribbon on hand. I just needed leaves. Hmmm. I scoured my city for some magnolia trees, to no avail. I did find some leaves in my neighborhood with the same basic shape. I gathered up a pile, dipped them in beeswax and spray painted them silver. They look stunning, but I wanted a big wreath, and was not about to dip and spray that many leaves. You will see that technique in an upcoming post. For today’s tutorial, see how I primered and sprayed dollar store leaves to create my own Z. Gallerie inspired silver magnolia leaf wreath!

Supplies:

16 inch Styrofoam wreath form

10 bundles (5 leaves each) of big oblong leaves from Dollar Tree

White Primer

Silver Spray Paint

Wire Ribbon

TUTORIAL:

I left my leaves on the stem and splayed them out to spray them. Protect your work surface for over spray first!

Primer, let dry overnight, then spray with silver.

When that dries, cut leaves from bunch, leaving 1.5-2 inch stem to insert into wreath form.

I made 3 concentric rows of leaves around my wreath form. I stuck the leaf in perpendicular to the form, then bent it at 90°.

NO GLUE REQUIRED!

Add a bow and hang.

Make an Aluminum Can Poinsettia Wreath

Last week, I showed you this paper poinsettia wreath tutorial using a Sizzix flower petal die and card stock. I decided to use the same die to create this aluminum can poinsettia wreath. The “wreath form” is a stove top piece I picked up at my local Habitat for Humanity Restore, making this an all around eco-friendly holiday decoration. Total project cost – about $1.

My Aluminum can rose video shows you how to cut the cans. Be careful – they can be sharp when cut.

I use alcohol inks to color my poinsettia petala , like I showed you in my aluminum can leaf wreath tutorial. To give each one some variation, I went over the petals with copic markers. For the leaves, I used Martha Stewart Glitter paint. I sealed my leaves with Mod Podge Pearl Spray Sealer. I love the look of this sealer with the alcohol ink.

To adhere the flowers to the circle stove part, I use Beacon Fabri-Tac. This stuff rocks. It is like hot glue in a bottle. Dries strong and fast.

I finished the wreath off with a silver wire ribbon bow. I love it against our off white door. It was going to be a gift, but it just can’t leave that spot. Sometimes that happens, right?!Like aluminum can Christmas decor? Check out our aluminum can angels:

Make a Paper Poinsettia Wreath

It doesn’t get much more Christmas than poinsettias, right? My grandmother has loved this flower since she was a young girl. She gets sad when they die, so I thought a paper poinsettia wreath would be just the Christmas gift for her this year. I made this in about 2.5 hours using the Sizzix Originals poinsettia die. You could go for the Sizzix Tim Holtz Poinsettia Die if you prefer layers over individual petals (guess what I just ordered). You could also use a different die cut machine, or heaven forbid, cut the leaves out by hand from a free poinsettia petal template like this one, used to create the flower below. The look is beautiful. No die machine necessary!

However you get your petals, see how to assemble and shape them, then finish the wreath with me. This will bring classic beauty to your holiday decor.

You can use any paper you want, but I prefer Kraft Core by Coordinations. This stuff is by far my favorite flower paper. You can fold, wrinkle, crease, sand and beat it down, and it comes through beautifully. I like to ink the edges of my flowers with Kraft Core by Coordinations and the blending tool.

TUTORIAL

For the center of the flower, I used yellow seed beads, super duper tiny ones. To glue them in place, I put a few dots of Mod Podge Jewel Glue. I love this because it dries clear, grabs fast, and comes in a container that has a twisty lid and doesn’t clog. This is key. If you are using another glue that clogs, like… all of the time, and you squeeze impatiently over the center of your flower, the entire glossy bottle contents may just ooze out all over your precious paper masterpiece. Ask me how I know #CanYouFindTheGlossyPoinsettia. This is another testament to Kraft Core. I literally washed – under the faucet, with soap – my paper flower, determined to save it. Once I got off as much of the glossy accident that I could, I took my heat tool to my soggy poinsetta, reshaped it, and it is good to go. Amazing.

Black Licorice Wreath DIY

This project began as an idea I had to create a Halloween wreath from black jelly beans. I couldn’t find any of those, and ust when I was about to abandon the plan, I spotted these little black licorice bites at the dollar store. The rest of the story is pretty self explanatory. I cut a wreath form from cardboard like I showed you in this fall wreath tutorial.

To adhere the licorice, I began, admittedly, with a hot glue gun. Um…no. That was not my smartest moment. As you can imagine, the glue melted the candy, and no adherence occurred. I then tried tacky glue, which also reacted with the candy and didn’t stick. Finally, I went for super glue. That did the trick!

The flower I made from orange paint chips, using the Sizzix Create a Bow Die. I used super glue to adhere it to the wreath. The hanging mechanism is a fabric scrap I had left over from another project.

I’m happy with my wreath, and at $4 total, it’s completely affordable. What do you think? Are there black jelly beans where you live? I think those would have been easier to glue.

Upcycled Aluminum Can Fall Wreath DIY

This is one of my favorite projects ever. I cost pennies to create, I absolutely love fall decorating and crafting, and upcycling is my thing. To make this wreath, I used my Sizzix and Tim Holtz leaf die, but if you don’t have a die cutter, you could do this part by hand with a leaf template, or use leaf shaped paper punches. They work great on aluminum cans. Let’s get started on this vibrant, eco-friendly autumn leaf wreath!

Duct tape (optional, but recommended if you are putting your wreath outside)
