Christmas Bunting With Template

Christmas Bunting

I am soooo excited about this project because I dusted off the sewing machine and stitched ribbon and paper triangles together for this Christmas bunting.  I got a lovely Martha Stewart Crafts delivery yesterday, and couldn’t wait to make something out of this gorgeous holiday patterned paper.

DIY Christmas Bunting

Using my cricut, and this template, I cut triangles from 12×12 double sided scrapbook paper, and sewed red ribbon across the top to make the bunting.  Super easy.  I am so very proud, because I don’t sew.  My husband took it upon himself to create a perfect place for my machine while I was away on a girls weekend.  That is a whole other post.

The mirror was a garage sale score that I spray painted white.  I love the double sided scrapbook paper against the mirror.  You can’t really see the effect to well in these pics.  It was dark out.  Flash… yuck.  Anyway, it is twice the fun, as you can imagine.

If you don’t want to sew, you can create a hole near each top points of the triangle, and string your ribbon or jute through, like I showed you here.

That is my story.  What do you think?  Bunting… yes or no?

Dollar Tree Snowflake Garland DIY

How to make snowflake garland

This project takes about 20 minutes and costs about $2. The glittery white plastic snowflakes are available from the Dollar Tree (got mine this morning) in packs of 10 for $1. I grabbed 2 packs since I wasn’t sure how long I wanted my garland to be. The strand pictured here uses 12 of the snowflake ornaments, some jute string and that is it!

Snowflake garland how toI just looped the jute around a spindle on each snowflake and hung them over the pine I already had on my mantel.

Quatrefoil Framed Joy Printable

Because I am in full swing Christmas decor mode, I decided to design this “JOY” trio, perfect for the silver dollar tree frames I picked up a couple of weeks ago.  I love how this turned out, and I have apparently decided to add black and red to my silver and white Christmas theme.  Below is the link for you to download these prints.  I put them all on the same 8.5×11 inch page to save room and paper.  My frame size is 3.5 x 5 inches, so they all fit.  You may need to resize for your project.

T-shirt Wreath DIY

How to make Christmas Wreath

This project is quite simple, inexpensive, and green.  Who doesn’t love repurposing old rags into festive holiday decor?  Raid the closet or the local thrift stores for your favorite colored cotton T’s and join me in my very first upcycled T-shirt craft!

Supplies:

  • T-shirt strips
  • Wreath form
  • Embellishments of your choice

Instructions:

  • I used my rotary cutter and a straight edge to cut thin strips of t-shirt.  They don’t have to be perfect.  Fabric scissors would be fine too.

Recycled T-shirt crafts

  • Begin wrapping the strips around the wreath form.  When you get to the end of a strip, join a new strip by tying the 2 ends in a simple knot.  I pulled and repositioned the strips so that the knots were all on what would be the back of the wreath (see below).

  • Tie a ribbon or other hanging mechanism and embellish as desired.  I used a fleece scarf from the dollar tree to hang this wreath.  For the bunting, I paper punched scrapbook paper and adhered it to twine with glue.  The letters came from Wal Mart.  I painted them silver and adhered them with hot glue.

That is it!  Are you using old t-shirts in your crafts?  I have seen some amazing projects on pinterst.

DIY Crepe Paper Tree

DIY Christmas CraftsI know, I know, it is not even Thanksgiving yet, but I have moved right onto Christmas decor.  Blame Dollar Tree.  I innocently stopped by there to kill some time before the pharmacy opened, and I had no choice but to buy supplies to make this crepe paper tree.  Super easy project that cost a total of $3 plus a few supplies I had on hand.  This sweet little tree can be made in any color to coordinate with your own holiday decor.

Supplies:

  • Glue gun
  • Cemetery vase from Dollar Tree, or Styrofoam cone shape
  • Crepe paper
  • Tree topper ornament from Dollar Tree
  • Foam base from Dollar Tree floral section (optional)

Homemade Christmas Crafts

Instructions:

  • You can glue and pleat as you go along, or pleat strips of the crepe paper, then glue them to the cone shape.  I switched randomly between both methods.  They both took about the same amount of time.  This was a 30 minute project.

Crafts for Christmas Tree

  • Once you have covered your entire cone, embellish as you like.  I covered the foam base in burlap with hot glue, then glued it to the crepe covered vase for a tree trunk.  Hot glue an ornament to the top for a star, spritz tree with glitter mist, or paint little polka dot ornaments.  I left it simple, and absolutely love it.

It is the beginning of this year’s silver and white Christmas theme at our house.  What are your colors this holiday season?

How Tile Color Affects Your Bathroom

glass tiles
A bathroom is one of the most difficult areas of a home to decorate. Everyone who visits your home – even short-term guests or one-off visitors – could find themselves in this room. So it’s important to get the look and ambiance right.

Many people focus on items such as sanitary-ware or storage when redesigning a bathroom. But one of the biggest ways you can change or shape the décor of a bathroom is to update its tiling.

Every bathroom has tiling, whether it is a contemporary wet room, or simply practical splashbacks. These touches can completely change the atmosphere of the room and should never be overlooked.

Like any room, color can make a huge difference to the environment. The hues that are select to adorn the walls can invite or repel and should be considered carefully. Whether you aim to create a warm, rustic atmosphere or a cutting-edge contemporary feel, there is a shade that will suit your purpose.

Owing to its clear aquatic connections, many homeowners select blues for their bathroom. But the spectrum is enormous: do you want to have dramatic, statement colour or a light, ambient splash? Pastels and soft hues are soothing and airy, and are particularly suited to large areas. Accent blues could include navy and royal shades, which may be worked in stripes or one-off tiles.

Alternatively, if you want to turn your bathroom into a modern-day powder room for the ladies of the household, pinks are the obvious choice. Candy-floss colors and ‘touch-of pink’ choices are excellent options for the majority of your walls. Or, if you’re feeling brave, fuchsia and rose are perfect.

Neutral colors like hessian and magnolia create a blank canvas for the rest of your décor, while not being as stark as brilliant white. However, if you want to introduce real drama, a monochrome palate of black, white and grey or silver – including options such as marble and granite – will give your bathroom a modern, striking look.

As well as color, there are all manner of patterns and effects available in a range of tiling options. Everything from metallic flecks to brocade embellishment can be found and, whether selected for every tile or simply one or two accent panels, they can give a sense of luxuriousness to the design.

Whatever your desired affect, bathroom tiles can achieve amazing and beautiful results that are limited only by your imagination.

Plaid’s New “Easy to Paint” Line Project

Plaid Easy to Paint Line

The creative minds at Plaid are at it again, with their new Easy to Paint craft line. You can pick these up today at AM Moore and Michaels craft stores! I received a sample of products to test drive, and I think you guys are going to love stencils, and the various project ideas provided.  I used them to turn a goodwill find into a lovely wall piece.

Here is what I started with…

stenciled wall art

I spray painted the frame black, and covered the inner piece with a square of music note printed scrapbook paper, using mod podge to adhere the scrapbook paper to the square.

I picked out a Folk Art painting stencil from the new line, and using a roller sponge applied folk art acrylic paint in aqua.  I love love love this color.  Anyway… I used stencil adhesive to keep the stencil in place.  The lines were crisp and perfect (which, given my history with stenciling is impressive)!

How to stencil

In retrospect, I would have diluted the paint with a little bit of water so the to make the paint layer more transparent, but I still love it.  Fits right in my with my fall entryway.

Folk art stencil project

There are cool peel and stick stencils for curved surfaces like glass, that I can’t wait to use with Folk Art’s enamel paint.  The stencil packaging comes with step by step instructions for inspiring projects that look pretty easy to pull off.

You will be seeing a peel and stick stencil project soon.  Have you tried these?  Do share.

Paint Chip Garland DIY

Paint Chip Garland

With so many fantastic colors in the form of paint chips, it is no surprise crafters everywhere are busy making cool stuff with them.  Inspired by this simple and lovely project at Carolyn’s Homework, I decided to create my own garland with chips that tie in the hues in my fall decor.  This is a simple, essentially free way to seasonally update your home.  It would also be perfect for parties, and Christmas decor.

Supplies:

  • paint chips in coordinating colors
  • glue
  • twine or thread of your choice
  • Paper shape cutter

Instructions:

  • Gather your paint chips and punch out a pile of shapes.  I went with the circle.

Paper Crafts

  • I made a sandwich with the string and a thin layer of glue between 2 circles.  That way there will be color on both sides when the inevitable twisting occurs.  You can use any glue.  I am addicted to Glossy Accents because of how quickly it grabs and dries.

  • Continue gluing chips until the garland is the length you want, and hang!
