Thrift Store Trinket Box Revamp

Mod Podge Jewelry Box Revamp

Anyone out there that hits the local Goodwill on the first Saturday of the month, when everything in the store is 50% off?  I am guessing yes.  This old little chest was a find from one of those trips.  I always get more than I would were it a normal price day, and often my bounty sits untouched in the garage for months on end (resulting in the occasional eye roll from hubby).

Sizzix Embossed Poly Clay Pendants

Sizzix embossed clay pendants

Today, I thought I would share some more polymer clay + Sizzix creations.  For this piece, I baked a very thin (6 on my pasta machine)  sheet of polymer clay (white fimo) for 45 min at 275°.    I let it cool, then embossed with Sizzix using  a Tim Holtz clock embossing folder.  Then I colored it with alcohol inks.  I cut a piece to fit the bezel, used Crafter’s Pick glue to adhere it into the bezel, and layered watch parts and the word on a transparency in resin (Lisa Pavelka Magic Glos).

Here is another pendant I made using the same technique.

Fruit Pizza Variation Recipe

Fruit Pizza Recipe

Taking a break from the regular craft tutorials here at SBLC, I thought I would share this awesome fruit pizza recipe that I got from my momma.  Not sure where she got it, but it is super yummy.  The pictures of the finished dish show this recipe doubled, and in a rectangular dish instead of the round cookie sheet.

Fruit Pizza Variation

This recipe makes 10-12 servings

Crust:

3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 1/2 cups flour

Topping:

1/4 cup sugar

1 Tbsp cornstarch

1/2 cup pineapple juice

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Filling:

10 oz package Hershey’s vanilla milk chips

1/4 cup cream

8 oz package cream cheese, softened

assortment of fruit pieces (strawberries, kiwi, mandarin oranges, blueberries… anything you want)

Fruit Pizza Recipe

Preparation:

  • For crust, cream together butter and powdered sugar, blend in flour and press mixture onto bottom and sides of  12 inch round pizza pan (pictures show bigger rectangle pan with this recipe doubled).
  • Bake at 300° for 20 min until lightly browned.  Cool completely.
  • For filling, melt chips in cream in a saucepan.  Beat in cream cheese until smooth.  Spread over cooled crust.  Chill.
  • For topping, combine sugar and cornstarch in saucepan.  Stir in juices and cook, stirring constantly until thickened.  Cool.
  • Slice and arrange an assortment of fruits over chilled filling mixture.  Pour cooled topping over fruit and serve immediately, or store in fridge.

Exercise tips

With the gorgeous spring weather, the desire to be fit for summer clothes and bathing suits goes into full drive.  I must admit, I have really let myself go in terms of fitness this year.  The last few weeks have seen me hitting the pavement, with a much slower pace than I am use to, and some labored breathing.  I am a runner, and also tend to be insanely somewhat competitive, particularly with myself.  Since I am nowhere near the pace I was 2 years ago, I am grabbing any tips I can to help me get the most of my time at the gym and outdoors.  Here are some tips I picked up at the gym over the weekend.  Some of them I knew, but others I had no idea.  Time to go buy myself some peppermint…

The smell of peppermint makes people feel more vigorous and less frustrated while exercising.

Apples are more effective at keeping people awake than a cup of coffee.

Playing with your children or grandchildren for an hour burns as many calories as walking briskly for an hour.  One is more fun.

Eating small snacks between meals helps you eat less and prevents overeating/binging.

Exercise prevents heart disease, stroke and type II diabetes.

One beer = 15 minutes of continuous jumproping.

Eating spicy food 1-2 hours before exercising can increase your metabolism as much as 50%.

The average American consumes 45 gallons of soda per year, which is equal to 21 lbs of body fat.
