Addendum to Kitchen Cabinet Post From Yesterday:

It was brought to my attention by a lovely follower that it would be easier to help me with my barren cabinet tops if you all could see mine. I am going to show you now. Ready?

Definitely lighting. Yes, lighting. Most of the pics I have looked to for inspiration have far less space between the cabinet tops and ceilings, so I am wondering if that is going to make me need to figure out really tall decor solutions, or if your standard vase/picture frame type accents will suffice.

Thanks for your tips, pics, and for entertaining my decor dilemmas!

What is the space between the top of your cabinets and the ceiling? You could put a large vinyl saying up there to have the eye stop at that point then start with placing items on the cabinets.

Hi! New follower from TTA. Thanks for visiting my page today. I agree with Shawn Becker. One of those vinyl sayings would be great! Also, I added random ceramic pieces & some old flour tins from Goodwill + some fake foliage. It's nice to cover up the space, and looks more "homey." Have a great night!

plants. Get vining plants like the wandering jew or other low light ones and then pin them as they grow to go up the walls. takes a little time but is cheaper than a lot of solutions.

I like to gather things from around the house and start playing with them. You want different textures, like naturals such as baskets and dried twigs, and then ceramics and glass and of course greenery. Play with it according to your style, more modern if that is the style of your house, so then your ceramics would have modern lines and your plants be more spiky. Make lists of things you want but don't have, go to TJ MAXX/ Home Goods, try them and if you don't like them, they have a great return policy. Have fun.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I think that plates would look good if you just got some of those plate stands to prop them up on. That wiil give them a little more height!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

As for the kitchen cabinets, The downside to that space is dust collection.. I like collectables like trays and teapots, old fashion tins, vases and platters could fill that spot.

My husband's aunt paints old fashioned saw blades and they hang above hers.. They start more conversations!!

Good luck

Visiting from the blog hop.

What about doing a large stripe up there in a cream or a strawberry? That would gave the space some visual interest.

What if you looked for vintage suitcases and pretty hat boxes? Stack them around (and you can hide things you don't use much in them). Old signs can be great too. You have so much room you can go large!
