Find it, Cut it, Wear it

Die cut flower pendant
My recent acquisition of the Sizzix Big Kick die cut machine has created a cut monster.  I had no interest in getting one of these since I have a Cricut, until I began dabbing with metal work in my jewelry.  Cricut will not even think about cutting metal.  Sizzix has dies that cut right through metal up to 24 mm thick (according to them), with tons of shapes to choose from, and I finally caved.

Since getting it, I have cut through several different materials (the popsicle stick pendant from the Scribble Challenge is a good example), and will be sharing my experiences and results with you as I go along.

This project was born out of my morning run.  I spied some random scraps of metal and plastic on the ground.  Immediately I pictured running them through my Big Kick, so I snatched them up and brought them home.

Make Jewelry With Sizzix

Die cut jewelry

You can make this necklace so easily with Sizzix.  All I did was die cut the shapes using the Sizzix Flower Layers #2 stack them, secure them with Crafter’s Pick, embellish with pearl in the center, and attach to chain with jump ring.  The bottom 2 layers are grungeboard with scrapbook paper glued to the top.  I had to hole punched a petal in the metal flower for the jump ring attachment.
Found Objects JewelryHere I made a flower embellishment for a pendant I had already created.  I simply cut a flower from the metal and the plastic I found in the road & adhered them with Crafter’s pick right on the front of my pendant.  The plastic layer (bottom) is colored with a pink copic marker.  What an easy way to completely makeover a pendant in a snap!

I am in love with this machine.  I don’t know what took me so long.  Wait until you see what you can do with polymer clay and the Sizzix!

So So cool! I love how you made the necklace out of found objects. It’s beautiful…and welcome to the Sizzix club!! You will never regret having a sizzix…it cuts and embosses pretty much anything…the creative possibilities are endless. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next 🙂

Hi Johnnie!
I have one of the older versions of the Sissix Cutting Systems, however, I had seen a few projects around with the Big Kick! After seeing what you are doing with it, you’ve really hooked me. Looks like it can come in very handy. I am a Jewelry Designer, and wanted to also mention to you — to try the ribbons with your pendants too! They normally come with several different ribbons, and I’ve used them on some of my things. I recently worked on a project with the Kumihemo (sp), and it’s really something! The pendant you made with the Big Kick would look great with that too! At first, I was so intimidated. When you are younger, it’s so much easier. although, I tend to be out there a little. Ha! Ha! My faith sustains me. Amen! Praise my Jesus! It’s given me such encouragement to try so many things. I’ve studied jewelry making/design for a number of years. Am now 67 (going on 39). Aha!!!

By the way, loved your Jade tutorial. It was really nice. Bet that would also look great in an oval (pendant), which is stamped with Chinese/Japanese symbols. It’s really nice. Oh! my local Bead Shop carries a cord, which is great for hanging pendants from. I recently purchased some, because it is great with Macrame. I would also like to try it out with the Kumi. too.

Thanks for sharing!

That die sizzix that is marked in the instruction is not the die cut you used to make that flower! Is there a reason the right one was not stated?

It actually is the one I used.
