Got Scrubs??
With the barrage of medical shows on prime time, it is no wonder that scrubs are kinda… stylish (thank you Patrick Dempsey). They are one of my favorite aspects of working in the medical field as they are so comfy, and are seemingly coming out in cuter cuts, colors and prints.
My momma is a registered nurse and recently turned me on to Blue Sky Scrubs, where she heads for her favorite nursing uniforms. By “turned me on to” I, of course, mean she stated plainly that she would like a gift certificate from Blue Sky for Christmas. She swears these scrubs make anyone look good.
I decided to investigate, and was happy to find there is a variety of cheap medical scrubs, with cute stitching detail around the pockets on both the top and pants. They even have a variety of clearance scrubs.
I plan to order while getting my mom’s Christmas gift. I will let you know how it goes!
Fall Inspired Crockpot Dish: Apple Stuffed Chicken Breast
Wild rice with apples and cranberries make this chicken taste wonderful, and your kitchen smell like fall heaven.
I made this dish in response to my addiction to grilled chicken salad with warm diced apples and dried cranberries. It is all I want to eat these days. My stepdaughter and her dorm roommate come home on Sundays to do laundry and I usually make a slow cooker meal. I thought this sounded yummy, and I was right…
1.5 c wild rice, uncooked
2 cored apples (I used Gala because they were cheap that day), finely chopped
2 onions, finely chopped
3/4 c sweetened dried cranberries
3 c water
salt to taste
4-5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast
Combine rice, apples, onion and cranberries in slow cooker and pour water over top. Mix well. Place chicken breasts on top of rice mixture. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours. Should serve 10. We couldn’t pull that off. It was all gone in 2 days, and there were only 4 of us. I will definitely be using this recipe again. Sorry no pics of the dish; it vanished before I thought to whip out the camera.
Perfect Love; My New Ankle Tattoo!
For several years, I have wanted to cover a tattoo on my ankle with something more… me. I got a lil flower put there on a whim when I was too young to even legally get a tattoo. I was always pushing the limits – that is a whole other story. So… a few years back I decided to have the flower lasered off, a multi step process of which I only complete one treatment. The process was painful both financially and physically, to the point that I never went back, leaving me with an undefined blob of random color where the flower once lived.
Polymer Clay Day 100: Joyous Bling Pendant
This is my last day of “100 Days of Polymer Clay”. I think the fun part of the adventure for me, that I will continue to explore and share on my blog, has been altered art and jewelry. I hadn’t intended for this to be 3 months of pendants, but that is where it went. I met some very crafty clayers and encountered tons of inspiration on this journey. Now I will have to think of a new blog challenge. In the meantime, check out my stores for new arrivals, cause I am a pendant making fool these days. If you haven’t tried polymer clay, DO IT. It is inexpensive, versatile, forgiving and there are tons of wonderful free tutorials online to light you up about this medium.
Polymer Clay Day 81: Klimt (or Retro Square) Cane
Remember this? If not, you can check it out here. I learned this “Klimt” technique from Dona Kato’s polymer clay cane book (see above linked post). I ran out of time to post a tutorial today (you understand, haircut and dinner with girlfriend), but I found a great tutorial here at Averilpam Jewelry. She did a wonderful job, and got the technique from the same book as I. So go check it out, and make yourself some cool easy designs.
The prayer of St. FrancisLord, make me an instrument of your peace, O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; For it is in giving that we receive; |
|
St. Francis was born at Assisi in 1182. After a care free youth, he turned his back on inherited wealth and committed himself to God. Like many early saints, he lived a very simple life of poverty, and in so doing, gained a reputation of being the friend of animals. He established the rule of St Francis, which exists today as the Order of St. Francis, or the Franciscans. He died in 1226, aged 44. The prayer has many of the biblical truths of what it means to be a Christian – to seek to give, and in so doing, receive blessings; that the Lord’s Prayer asks God to forgive us as we forgive, and that the goal of eternal life can only result from us putting to death our old sinful lives. Polymer Clay Day 76: Retro Funky Cross
If you knew how easy this project was, you would be conditioning clay right now. I have said this before, but in case you missed it – Polymer clay is a wonderful medium for several reasons. Being a frugal fanatic, one of my favorite reasons being its low cost. It doesn’t take a big investment to get started. Another plus is that it is a very forgiving medium. I often make mistakes which are easily remedied by adding texture, or covering with another thin sheet of clay. There is a ton of information online, free tutorials, etc. Some resources that helped me get going… Polymer Clay Central, Diane’s Glass attic, PC Polyzine. That will keep you busy for awhile. Next week look out for my tutorial on this funky square cane.
Update and Friday Blog Hops…
I promise more clay and tutorials over the weekend. I have been busy schooling myself in HTML. On that topic, here is a wonderful website with free HTML courses. It is interactive and starts at the most base level (which I appreciate). I will keep you posted as I progress through this site. So far I have finished the “Basic HTML” course.
