Make an Upcycled Plastic Bag Bracelet

Make an #upcycled plastic bag bracelet @savedbyloves #recycledcrafts

[pinit]

Today’s project is a fun plastic bag upcycled bracelet!  Fusing plastic bags creates a fabric that can be stitched, die cut, painted and embossed for some cool effects.  The possibilities are endless.  Keep your eyes peeled for brightly colored shopping bags and start hoarding!

SUPPLIES:

Plastic Bags

Copy paper

Iron

Ironing board

Chain Bracelet

Jump rings

Jewelry Hole Punch

2 pairs of chain nose pliers

PlasticBagBracelet3

TUTORIAL:

Turn iron onto Setting 4

To create the “fabric”  cut the handles from the bags and cut rectangular sheets smaller than your copy paper.  Layer 5-10 sheets and sandwich between the 2 sheets of copy paper

Iron 30 seconds (continuously moving iron to avoid melting plastic), flip sandwich over and iron other side for 30 sec.  Let cool 15 sec and check.  If plastic is not completely fused into one sheet (air bubbles and crackle sounds), repeat ironing and check again.

Die cut or hand cut small ovals and squares.  Hole punch and attach to bracelet chain with jump ring.  Alternate ovals and squares.

DIY Pendant From Aluminum Can

[pinit]How to make an aluminum can embossed chevron pendant #Upcycle #DIY #Jewelry @savedbyloves

[pinit]

I gave a teaser of this pendant on my Facebook fan page awhile back, and asked you to guess what I used to make it.  There were several guesses, and one of them was right.  It is an aluminum can.  The process was pretty simple.  I used Vintaj Patina metal paints and a chevron embossing folder in my Sizzix.   Use any image or photo for your custom, eco-friendly pendant.   This post shows you how…

I showed you how to cut aluminum cans in this video:

Use a heart paper punch to punch a heart in the middle of what will be the front of your pendant, then emboss front and back triangle with chevron or desired embossing folder:

AluminumCanResinHeartPendant2

how to emboss metal

I used aged bronze Vintaj paint, then aqua over that, and sanded to give a distressed look.  Seal with Vintaj Glaze.

For the image, I printed it on cardstock with laserjet, hand doodled with Pitt Pen and added Tim Holtz word sticker with Glossy Accents.  I sealed the entire image with Mod Podge and sandwiched it between front and back pendant rectangle.  Then I used my metal punch to place holes in top on both sides and the center of all 3 layers (hammer and nail would work too).

The middle hole is for the jump ring to attach the pendant to the chain.  Using the side holes, I riveted the pieces together like this video from Beadaholique shows:

That is it!

Cupcake Liner Rosette Frame

Make a cupcake liner rosette frame with #DIY from @savedbyloves

[pinit]

I was browsing the swoon worthy pages of one of my favorite publications, Somerset Life, when I came across their call for cupcake liner crafts.  Oh how awesome it would be to make it onto one of those pages!  I decided to make roses from the liners, and adhere them to a plain wood frame for this rosette wreath.  It took awhile to roll all those little flowers, but the project was easy, and well worth the time.

SUPPLIES

White cupcake liners (a few packs, depending on the size of your frame)

Craft glue (I used Glossy Accents)

Sizzix 3D flower Die

Sizzix Machine

If you don’t have a die cut machine, you can cut the spirals by hand with a spiral rose template, like I showed you here

Wreath form or unfinished frame/garage sale frame

Bamboo Skewer or toothpick

Simple as that!  I decided to leave the picture out of the frame, since it is a piece of art in and of itself.  I think I want to do a matching lampshade.

Faux Stone Bracelets from Salt Dough

[pinit]

Faux stones with salt dough Clay

Hi everyone,

I’m Carolyn from homework. Johnnie is away for a few days enjoying some time with family and I was thrilled when she asked me to share a project with you. This is a fun craft that can be adapted for little kids or made more sophisticated for grown up jewelry. Can you guess what they are?

Faux stone bracelet #DIY #Jewelry #tutorial from Carolyn's Homework @savedbylovesThese faux stone beads are made from salt dough. This is another project that has been on my list to make for quite awhile and I was really happy with the results.
These bracelets are the inspiration. I wear these a lot!  The blue bracelet is turquoise and I’m not sure what type of stone the white bracelet is.

I love these bracelets. They’re easy to throw on since they’re on stretchy jewelry cord and their chunky size and variegated tones make a nice statement.
I started by making some salt dough beads. I don’t have a picture of the beads before I painted them but here’s the recipe I used:
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
1-1/2 cups cold water
Note: I cut the recipe in half and had more than enough dough to make a lot of beads.
Thoroughly mix the flour and salt together. Add the water and mix well. Knead the mixture for ten to fifteen minutes. Shape your beads and make a hole with a wooden skewer. Bake at 250 degrees for 2-3 hours or until they are completely dry and hardened.
Tip: The holes on most of my beads closed up during the baking process. I may try baking them on a piece of wire or the skewer next time I make these.

Once the beads were cooled, I started painting them with the craft paints. I used two coats of Martha Stewart High Gloss in Wedding Cake for the white and while the white paint was still wet added Metallic Sterling for the accent. The trick is to just dab on the silver color and swirl it slightly. Dry your beads on toothpicks. Once they are completely dry, finish with a coat of clear gloss sealer.
And here they are… my favorite bracelets; turquoise, white stone and salt dough.
I hope you enjoyed the project I shared here today. Stop by and visit me anytime at homework

Recycled Pop Can Heart Earrings

[pinit]

#DIY #Upcycled Recycled aluminum can heart earrings by @savedbyloves

Need some earrings to show your Valentine’s Day spirit?  Give these recycled Coke can heart earrings a try.  They are super cheap to create, and your friends will be amazed that they came from a can.  You can used a paper punch or a die cut machine for the heart shape.  The embossing can be done with a die cut machine or embossing folder and rolling pin, like I showed you in my recycled can heart bezel pendant tutorial.

#DIY #Upcycled Recycled aluminum can heart earrings by @savedbyloves

SUPPLIES

Aluminum can

4 4mm jump rings

Earring wires

Metal hole punch

Texture embossing folder

ICE resin

Vintaj relief block

Red acrylic paint and sponge brush

Metal primer

2 pairs of flat nose jewelry pliers

TUTORIAL

Cut aluminum can and primer

See recycled can heart bezel pendant for more details on preparing the can.

Emboss and cut heart shapes

I showed you in the heart bezel pendant tutorial  (linked above) how you can emboss without an embossing machine.  Emboss first, then cut shape (aren’t you proud, Amy?)!

vintaj reliefing block

apply ICE jeweler's grade resin

To dome the resin, pour in middle and pull out to edges with toothpick or needle tool.  Don’t pour too much.  You can always add more resin if needed.  Having resin run over the edges of your piece is no fun.  Seriously.

doming resin instructions

When resin is dry, paint the other side of the earring and hole punch for jump ring placement.

metal hole punch tutorial

punch holes for jump ring placement

Use pliers to open jump ring and attach it to another jump ring and an ear wire.  Close, then open end ring an attach to heart.
