A Happy Accident: DIY Miniature Houses with Plaster and Acrylic Paint

Sometimes, the best craft projects come from unexpected surprises! I recently set out to create miniature plaster houses using Perfect Plaster and decided to mix in Liquitex acrylic pigment, thinking it would give the pieces a rich, even color. But as you’ll see in the video, the results were totally different from what I expected— and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out!

Learn how to make plaster houses and what I did to rescue them in this video.

To rescue the project, I used FolkArt black acrylic paint, and the transformation was stunning. The chalky matte finish gave my distressed miniature houses an industrial, modern look, highlighting the yellow specks and unique textures in the plaster.

It’s proof that sometimes, crafting mistakes lead to the most creative results! Now, the final step is sealing these pieces with Mod Podge Matte to protect the finish and maintain that beautifully soft, matte texture. Have you ever had a happy crafting accident that turned into something amazing? I’d love to hear your stories!
