DIY Dollar Store Eraser Valentine Earrings

Valentines Day Jewelry Tutorial

I heart creating with dollar store supplies. For one, it is cheap, and it challenges me creatively. When I saw these cute Valentine’s Day erasers over the weekend, I immediately thought they need some resin and ear wires! Follow along to see how I made earrings from dollar store erasers!

Dollar Store Craft Idea

At first I imagined making a pendant, but then I realized the erasers came in pairs, just perfect for earrings. This project is super cheap and easy to do. Don’t be intimidated by resin if you’ve never used it.

ICE Resin Jewelry Tutorial

Especially now that ICE resin has made mixing the two parts so simple.

Dollar Store Resin Craft Idea

When working with 2 part resin, it is crucial to mix equal parts A and B. If you are off even just a little, the resin may no cure properly. ICE resin comes in a plunger that extrudes equal parts automatically.

How to Use Resin

Use a craft stick and mix the 2 parts by stirring for at least 1 minute.

TIP:  After mixing, let resin sit for 5 minutes before applying it. This lets the mixture settle and decreases air bubbles.

How to apply resin

Apply a little bit of resin at a time, starting in the center using the craft stick. It can take awhile to get use to how much resin to use. Just don’t go overboard. You can always add more to create a dome effect after the first layer has dried, but you are in for a mess if you use to much and it spills over the edge.

Let resin cure for 12 hours.

Upcycled Jewelry

I picked up these screw eyes at Walmart for $0.97.

Dollar Store Craft Make $3 Wall Art Trio

Dollar Store Craft Three Dollar Wall Art DIY

 [pinit]

I am so excited to share with you this great Dollar Tree wall art project that you can make for $3!  I found some adorable spring/summer print gift bags on my most recent trip there and decided to bring them home and make barn wood frames from scrap wood for them. While there, I also grabbed the coordinating navy blue planter, knowing I would put the DIY Paper Daisies I showed you last spring in there to go with the daisy on one of the cute gift bags.  Once I got the three bags framed, I decided there needed to be text on the chevron backgrounds, so I cut out “Oh Glorious Day” using my Cricut.  You can get the cut file too!

Here are the three bags.  I loved the daisy and the chevron prints in coordinating colors on the other bag.

TUTORIAL:

I measured the bags to see how big to make my frames.  I decided I wanted the opening to be 9×10 inches.

How to Cut Wood With Table Saw

I shared an Ana White Barnwood Frame Plan in this DIY Barnwood Frame Tutorial with Free Printables.  For this project, I wanted different dimensions and learned a couple of tricks I want to share along the way.  I wanted to use 1×2 inch boards, but didn’t have enough of that dimension on hand, so I ripped 1×4 scraps with my table saw by setting the guide arm at 1.5 inches (which is the actual width of a 1×2 board).  I

Next I set my miter saw to 45º and cut one end of my homemade 1×2.

How to cut Mitered Corners for frame

I measured from the short inner point of the angle 9 inches over and cut the other side going the opposite direction (so I moved my miter saw 45º to the left).

How to Make a Barnwood Frame

I lined the inner frame up with 1×2 flipped up on its side to know where to make the 45º cuts for the outer frame.  This was easier and quicker than measuring!  I used 2 paint stirrers to give me the thickness for attaching the inner frame to the outer so that the back of the frame would be recessed for my foam mounted gift bags (foam mounting happens after the frames are made, see below).

Ryobi Air Strike Nailer For Joining Inner and Outter Frame

Use wood glue at the join and clamp the inner and outer frame together.  Nail in place with 2 inch nails.  Did I ever tell you I love this Ryobi AirStrike cordless nailer?  I do.  It is a go to tool for me.  So easy to use, CORDLESS, goodbye hammer and nails.

Mount Picture on Foam Board

Cut foam board to fit in the back of the recessed frame.  Cut the desired image area off of the gift bag and adhere it to the foam board with Super 77 or other mounting adhesive.

Smooth out Wrinkles with Hand

Smooth wrinkles from the center out with your hand.

Paint Frame With Chalk Paint

Paint frame with color of choice.  I used white chalk paint and antiqued the edges with  FolkArt Antiquing Medium .  I sealed with Krylon Clear Coat Matte Finish because it was nice outside and I was excited that I could use spray sealer after such a long winter!  Wax or varnish would be fine too.

Put Image in Barnwood Frame

Since the foam board is cut to the same dimensions as the recess in the back of the frame, the picture pretty much fits and stays.  I used clear packing tape to secure it in place.

I used Coordinations adhesive cardstock in yellow and my Cricut with SCAL software to cut out the text, which I created in Photoshop (“oh” is “Always in My Heart” font and “GLORIOUS DAY” is Ostrich Sans Black).  Since the paper was adhesive I just peeled off the letters and put them on the chevron patterned framed backgrounds like you see in the photo.  You could use the cut file to make a stencil and paint the letters on, or print them in your favorite color and cut them out by hand too.

Super easy and cheap DIY; Dollar Tree Soap Rose Wreath and bouquet tutorial @savedbyloves[pinit]

Dollar Store Wreath Tutorial

Ok, I will admit, I am pretty proud of this Dollar Store Craft.  I made the rose bouquet and wreath from rose soaps I found at Dollar Tree!  You get 9 in a package and at one of the Dollar Tree stores near me, I found them 2/$1.  It took 12 packages for the wreath and 4 for the bouquet.  Not only are these gorgeous, but they smell good too.  Just don’t put them outdoors.  Rain is not this project’s friend!

Dollar Store Valentine's Day Craft

The soaps come in white, pink and red, perfect for Valentine’s Day!  I plan on making an all white one for year round, since it is just so beautiful!

SUPPLIES:

Wreath Form or foam board and circular objects to trace and cut out a wreath form of your own

Scissors

Hot Glue Gun and sticks

Rose soaps

Additional Supplies for bouquet:

Floral Wire

Round nose pliers

Vase

TUTORIAL:

Wreath form DIY

For the wreath, cut out your wreath form if you are making one.  If you have one, skip this step!  I traced a wreath form onto foam board.  I wanted a flat surface instead of the dimensional wreath form.  Cut out with scissors.

DIY Rose Wreath

I decided to go in color block sections.  Lay out your design then glue roses onto wreath form with hot glue gun.

Hot glue a loop of string on the back and your wreath is ready to hang.

Now for the Bouquet:

Cut wire 8-10 inches or your preferred stem length.  Start a loop at one end with your pliers.

Remove wire from pliers and use fingers to continue spiraling as until you get something like the above shot.

Add a dab of hot glue to the base of the flower.

Tiered Stand From Dollar Store Dishes

Dollar Store Tiered Dish Tutorial #DIY home decor @savedbyloves

[pinit]

All the talk of repurposed dishes in this week’s 50+ ways to upcycle dishes roundup got me thinking.  I was at my local dollar store and scooped up three glass dishes in small, medium and large.  In a project that took all of 5 minutes, I created a fun tiered display stand with them.  This is great for decorating seasonally since I can fill it with various colored stones and decor to go with the holidays.  Now I have it filled with plastic hearts (also from the dollar store) and ceramic hearts from the local fair trade store.

The spindles I scored at Habitat For Humanity Restore… a whole box of them!  I wasn’t sure what I would do with them, but I knew I would use them somehow.  I have like 40 more of them, so this is not the last project they will appear in!
