Dollar Tree Pallet Wood Bathroom Organizer Tutorial

[pinit]$3 Dollar Store Craft Idea Reclaimed Wood Organizer @savedbyloves[pinit]

Could you stand to be a little more organized in your bathroom?  I know I could.  I find organizing rather boring, unless I can combine it with creating a cool home decor accent.  Today I am sharing a project fitting that bill- a rustic, chalkboard reclaimed pallet wood bathroom organizer using cute little jars I scored at the Dollar Tree recently!  For only $3 and some supplies I had on hand, this project packs a big punch on the cheap.  You can totally make this.  Give it to Mom for Mother's Day!

SUPPLIES:

How to make wood pallet bathroom organizer

Pallet wood plank about 15 inches

Amazing Goop or E6000

Saw tooth hanger

Hammer

3 Dollar Tree Jars

Chalkboard Paint

Small Paint Brush

Tape Measurer

Marker or pencil

TUTORIAL:

Begin by hammering the sawtooth hanger in the middle upper back of the wood.  You want to do this before gluing the jars in place.

How to attach jars to wood with Amazing Goop

Measure placement for the jars and mark three evenly space dots on the front of your board with pencil or marker.  This board already had 3 evenly space holes drilled for a project that never happened.  Apply a generous dot of Amazing Goop on the board on the marked spots and on the jars in the middle back.  Let this sit for 2-10 minutes, then place jars, holding gentle pressure on each for about 1 minute.  Let this cure for a couple of hours before the next step.

Paint the indented area with Chalkboard paint.  This took several light coats, drying 15 minutes between each.

Kreg jig and Kreg Screws

Walnut Wood Finishing Cloths

Burlap

Stiffy

Chalky Finish Paint in Escape (Blue)

Foam Brush

Super 77

Scissors

Cricut or other die cut machine, or monogram stencil

TUTORIAL:

I showed you how to make a wood pallet sign using a Kreg Jig in this DIY Pallet Sign Tutorial.  Kreg makes joining wood slats super easy.  I LOVE IT.

Once your sign is created, stain it with your choice of color.  My favorite way to stain these days is Minwax Wood Finishing Cloths.  Stain and seal in one step with an easy swipe.

How to make a Monogram Reclaimed Wood Pallet Sign

I used my cricut to make a stencil with a design I created in Photoshop.  The software I use to connect my Cricut and my laptop is Sure Cuts Alot, but I am pretty sure that is no longer available.  Cricut has software for this purpose, which I have not used.

Use Chalky Finish Paint and Burlap DIY Sign

I used sticky back paper for my stencil so it would stick to the Burlap.  I prepared the burlap with Stiffy fabric stiffening spray so that it wouldn't fray when I cut it.

Paint with blue Chalky Finish Paint by DecoArt.  I am loving this line.

DIY Mother’s Day Sign

Hello friends! It's Barbara from Chase the Star, and today I'm happy to share another simple DIY project. Mother's Day is almost here and Moms love it when we make them gifts, right? Well they did when we were kids, so why not continue the tradition?

DIY Mother's Day Gift

[pinit]

I love Proverbs 31 and I think verse 28 is perfect for mothers as a reminder of how much she should be cherished and appreciated! Of course it would make a great DIY project, so I headed to the thrift store and picked up this picture:

DIY Mother's Day Gift..update a thrift store picture! via Chase the Star for Saved By Love Creations

It's the perfect size and the back already has a hanger!

How to DIY a Sign

Materials:

Second hand sign (thrift store, garage sale, etc.)

Sanding block

Spray paint

Die Cut Machine (I used the Cricut Explore)

Adhesive vinyl / Transfer paper

Step 1: This picture is actually a sticker, so I wet the whole thing and peeled it off with a scraper. After it was dry I went over it with a sanding block.

IMG_4464

Step 2: Spray it in the color of your choice; I went with gloss black.

IMG_4468

Step 3: Create the verse on the cutting machine, cut it out, and adhere it to the painted wood (for instructions on how to do that click here). Instead of peeling the lettering and painting, I just kept the white vinyl on there.

IMG_4469

Step 4: Go over the whole piece with the sanding block, carefully! This step is optional but it will reduce some of the gloss (if you used gloss paint) and give it an overall 'worn' look.

Since the hardware is already on, all you have to do is wrap it up in pretty paper and give it to the Mom in your life!

DIY Mother's Day Gift Proverbs 3128 via Chase the Star

Play around with the fonts on your machine and choose the one that you like the best. I wanted my sign to be simple, so I went with cursive. I think I will make a few more so I can pass them out to friends, back to the thrift store I go!

Upcycle a Rusty Grate Into a DIY Photo Display

[pinit]Repurpose Photo Display Idea @savedbyloves [pinit]

Today I am happy to share with you this rustic, quick & easy upcycle to display your favorite Instagram photos - all while saving a rusty old grate from a tragic dumpster demise!  This particular grate is from an fire pit that is no longer.  I just couldn't part with it.  Round objects have a hard time getting away from me since I love the challenge of using them to create unique repurposed wreaths.

Such as this repurposed hubcap wreath...

I digress.  Back to the grate.

Upcycled Grate to Photo Display

Here is the old thing.  It has sat on my porch for months, begging for inspiration to strike me.  Along came Susan.

If you haven't been to Homeroad, you need to remedy that.  Susan is a junker with an eye for upcycling that always inspires.  When I saw her Barrel Strap Photo Holder, I knew what I had to do.

Scrapbook ephemera

I used ATC backgrounds I found at Hobby Lobby in a fun yellow, blue, vintage yet modern, geometric patterned, grungy style.  you know that style, right?

The flowers are from Prima .  I grabbed them at Hobby Lobby, but you can find them with my Amazon link too.

I used silver and white baker's twine with the intention of clipping the photos with tiny cute clothespins.  While digging through my stash I found the perfect Gator clips from 7 Gypsies.  Their little hook fit perfectly over the rods in the grate.

I threw this piece together in under 10 minutes, and I will cherish it for years to come!

DIY Wood Slice Chalkboard Art

Hello friends, it's Barbara from Chase the Star, and I'm so excited to be back here to share some more crafty goodness!

Chalkboard paint is one of my favorite crafting mediums, it's so versatile, and works with just about every decor style. I have it all over my house; on walls, furniture, everywhere! Most recently I used chalkboard paint on a wood slice for a new and fun art piece..

Talk about easy DIY art! This would make a great gift; here's how you can make one:

7-9" Wood slice

Chalkboard craft paint (I used Americana)

Chalk

White painter's pen

Stencil of your choice (I used a set by American Crafts)

Brush (foam or bristle)

Make sure your wood slice is free of dust and add a coat of the chalkboard paint to one side. Allow it to dry a few minutes.

Step 2:

Go over the chalkboard paint with a light coat of chalk. Then wipe it off.

I just wiped it down dry so that the wood grain stands out but you can choose to remove the chalk with a damp cloth if you rather the grain not show.

Step 3:

Using the painting pen and your stencil add the message you like! I went with the phrase "U & Me" but you can put your family's initial, or other cute and fun wording!

You can add a sawtooth hanger on the back to put it up on a wall. Or just lean it on a mantel, or even lay it flat on a nightstand or entry table!

How to print on burlap
Now it's time to insert the burlap into the printer.

Printing on burlap at home Then it's time to print your design or quote.
I chose this quote because I thought it was beautiful
and I knew I had the perfect burlap accessory to go along with it. 🙂
Now sit back and watch your fabulous art appear.
Burlap home decor
Once it's done printing some tutorials may tell you to remove the card stock.
But I won't. Nope.
I am going to use the card stock to give my burlap some support for when I frame it.
I didn't want my printable behind glass because I wanted to accessorize
with some pretty burlap flowers.
So I placed the burlap print in the frame first and placed the glass behind.
To add my flowers, I simply used my glue gun.
And that was it.
Can you believe how easy that is?
I know right. I better go stock up on ink because I am going to be
a burlap printing fool!  🙂

[pinit]Easy Dollar Store Rose Soap Framed DIY @savedbyloves [pinit]

Last week I showed you a wreath and bouquet made from these pretty Dollar Tree rose soaps.  You get 9 in a package, and at the store where I live the packs are 2 for $1!  I am having a blast gluing these soaps to various things.  Today I will show you how I made this rosette framed dry erase board with them and a few basic supplies.  Wake up your sweetheart with a personalized message and breakfast in bed this Valentine's Day!

How to Make a Dollar Store Rose Frame

Dry Erase Board from Dollar Store

Scrap foam board or cardboard large enough to frame the dry erase board

Utility knife

Straight edge and marker

Glue Gun

Dollar Tree rose soaps

TUTORIAL:

DIY Dry Erase Board

Measure and and mark frame dimensions on foam board using straight edge and marker.  I made mine 2 inches wide and the opening to fit the dry erase board (in this case 6x8 inches).  Cut out with utility knife.

DIY Dollar Store Craft

Apply a thin strip of hot glue around the dry erase board foam frame and place your new frame on top of that.

Make a Rosette Frame From Dollar Store Soaps

Simply glue the rosettes in place with a dot of hot glue.  I went with all white this time.  That way I can use it all year round, not just on Valentine's Day.

How to Make a Dry Erase Board

The roses made the piece to heavy to hang on the fridge with the 2 magnets that came on the back.  I didn't really mind since I plan to display mine on a shelf.  If you want to have it on your fridge, add more magnet strips to the back.  You can get rolls of adhesive backed magnet at most craft stores.

Mixed Media Valentine’s Day Free Printable + iPad Art Journaling App

Procreate and scanned mixed media are used to create this free Valentine's Day 8x10 Mixed Media "Love" printable #mixedmedia #valentinesday #freeprintable @savedbyloves[pinit]

Today at Printable Decor, I am sharing this mixed media LOVE Valentine's Day Free Printable.  I made it using some hand sketched elements scanned into the computer, then edited in my favorite new art journaling iPad app, Procreate.

scan art for #procreate #digitalartjournaling #artjournal

You can incorporate your own hand drawn elements via your touch screen, using the amazing selection of mediums for any brush stroke or line you would like to create.  This piece was a pencil out line of the woman on white paper I scanned in (see above), placing over a fun background in Procreate, where I changed the blend mode to multiply.  This leaves just the dark outline and gets rid of the white space.  I painted her all in the app, decreasing the opacity of the painted layers so that the background was visible underneath the skin and clothes.

You can save your files as PSD for further editing in Photoshop if you would like.  Procreate also uploads and downloads directly to dropbox.  Love it!  Super addictive and a great way to journal on the go.
