Valetine’s Day Wreath From Coffee Stained Flowers

How to make a wreathI had a gift certificate for Joann’s and wanted to make a Valentine’s Day wreath, so off I went to see what inspired me from the store.  I found white flowers in the bridal section, and a heart shaped wreath form in floral.  I also spotted this adorable vintage graphics heart decor piece that I had to snatch up for under $3.  I got them all home, and decided the white was too white.  I needed an aged look, so I put the flowers in a shallow pan and poured coffee over them.  I let that sit for a few, then spread them out on wax paper to dry.

Once they were dry, I just stuck them to the wreath form with my hot glue gun.  I arranged my new wreath and the decorative vintage image heart from Joann’s with a wide red ribbon, and that is that!

I love it!  It is a nice change from the t-shirt wreath I had up before.  I think cupid is smiling.

Valentine’s Sprinkles and Resin Jewelry

Resin jewelry tutorial Love text & candy sprinkles from @savedbyloves

[pinit]

Looking for a quick and easy gift for Valentine’s Day?  This project fits the bill.  Remember this post on patriotic resin jewelry?  The process is the same, except I used Valentine’s Day sprinkles instead of red, white and blue.  I also used heart shape bezels which I found with the polymer clay at Hobby Lobby.   Follow along for the step by step, and you will be on your way to your very own LOVE jewelry.

Supplies:

  • Magic Glos
  • Pendant and earring bezels and desired jewelry findings
  • A sunny day, or UV curing lamp; I use Lisa Pavelka’s and it works like a charm
  • Toothpicks
  • Tile small enough to fit into lamp to cure your pieces on
  • Sprinkles
  • small mixing  cupResin jewelry supplies

Instructions:

  • Pour some sprinkles into the cup, along with a few drops of Magic Glos and using toothpick, mix resin and sprinkles so that sprinkles are coated.

  • Use toothpick to pick up a clump of sprinkles/resin and spread into bezel.  You don’t want the sprinkles to go higher than the lip of the bezel.  When you are happy with the coverage, put a drop or two of Magic Glos in the middle and expose to UV to cure (either outside on a sunny day, or under a UV lamp.  Valentine's Day crafts
  • Once cured, add another layer of resin to get the dome effect and cure again. You can add embellishments, stickers or whatever you can think of at this point too. I used my label maker to make this love sticker. I put it on top of the cured layer, then put resin over it, then cured.

TIP:  Use toothpick to “pull” resin from middle of piece out to the edges

I just love this UV resin.  There is another, way less expensive brand called UltraDome, which is being shipped to me soon.  I hope I love it as much as I love Magic Glos.  I will keep you posted!

Found Coffee Table Revamped

how to paint furniture

Over the summer, I spied this junky old coffee table curbside and snatched it right up.  With the recent unseasonal temperatures, I decided to take advantage of this perfect spray painting weather, so atypical of mid January!  All I did was sand it down, coat it with 2 coats of primer, paint white and stencil the lattice design on top.  I used Martha Stewart home decor stencils and her glossy white paint for the base coat, and cloud blue for the top.  Here she is before…

Walgreens Helps Ease Burden on Patients After Failed Negotiations With Express Scripts

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Over the past year, Walgreens has tried to negotiate with Express Scripts to remain part of its pharmacy provider network, without success.  To view the press release, click Walgreens and Express Scripts.  This means that as of Jan. 1, 2012, Express Scripts (ES) members who have used Walgreens for their prescription needs will have to switch to another pharmacy to get their in network benefits.  Patients will see no benefit from the exclusion of Walgreens, only the hassle of finding a new pharmacy that likely has a less convenient location and hours.  Patients are understandably left confused and frustrated.

In response to this, Walgreens is offering a special discount on annual membership for its Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens.  For just $10 a year, a family membership covers everyone in your immediate family, including a spouse, dependents 22 and younger and pets. Individuals may join for $5. Joining gives you savings on over 8,000 brand name and generic scripts, discounted flu shots and medical supplies (including nebulizers and diabetic supplies), and more.  Bonuses for purchasing Walgreens brand products and photo services are another benefit of the prescription savings club.

Walgreens tried everything they could to prevent disruption in pharmacy services for patients with ES, but were unable to negotiate  a way to remain a on the Express Scripts pharmacy network provider list.  Now they have stepped up to offer substantial savings to those affected by this situation.  I plan to show my support for Walgreens  and stay updated on this by following  Walgreens on Twitter and Walgreens on Facebook .  I hope you do the same!

Charmed Joy Butterfly Resin Pendant

Resin pendant with image

This pendant is made from decorative paper, adhesive “JOY” punch stickers, rub-ons, Magic Glos resin and some charm embellishments (a black butterfly and a couple of pearls I got from some old costume jewelry).  I have been on a resin kick as of late, making pieces for an upcoming show.  I am happy with how this one turned out.  I love how versatile scrapbooking supplies are… home decor, jewelry, all kinds of altered art, and even scrapbooks.

How to make resin pendants

Here, I traced the bezel on scrapbook paper and cut out the circle to fit.  I adhered the letters to spell joy, added some Stickles (glitter glue), then a thin layer of Magic Glos, which I cured under my UV lamp.  Then I did the orange leaves from a rub-on pack I had in my stash.  A  couple of more layers of resin with curing in between, and that was that.  Using a jump ring, I added the pearls from old costume jewelry, and the black butterfly charm I had on hand.  I paired the pendant with a black beaded strand for the finished necklace.

Woven Paper Bead Bracelets

Magazine Page Bracelet

Need an idea for all those paper beads you have lying around?  I have loads of them from a paper bead rolling fiasco a couple of months back.  If you don’t have paper beads, here is a  how to make paper beads video I shared awhile back.  For these bracelets, I just wove the beads with black elastic cord, surrounding each paper bead with a glass E bead.  Pretty simple, and makes for a great look.  I get compliments every time I wear one of these.
