Thrifty Thursday Week 27

Week 27 of Thrifty Thursday.  I missed having Thrifty Thursday last week.  It felt strange.  My blog was down while I was transferring to WordPress.  The whole experience gave me an opportunity to see just how addicted to this whole thing I actually am.  It was a bit of a hassle, but like anything I have ever attempted here, there is a ton of support in blogland.  I have yet to be left with an unsolved dilemma.  I can see already that WP is quite powerful.  I am going to wait a month or so to do a full review of the experience, until I can get some traffic numbers to compare.  I will say that I used Blogelina to do my transfer, and would recommend Tanya and her team to anyone considering the move.

Back to the hop.  Yippie!!!

Look around and join the fun.  The idea is to link to your frugal post, whether it be a DIY, recipe, tip, coupon… if you like it, link it.  If you don’t have a thrifty post to link to, feel welcome to join the hop anyway, and link to your main blog.

Gallery Glass Striped Vase Tutorial

Gallery Glass Vase Tutorial

7 hours after application of color; transparent now!

Immediately after window color application

Color just applied and still mainly opaque.

I got the inspiration for this striped vase from a Joann Fabrics project sheet.  It is a pretty straightforward project, involving Gallery Glass window color and Redi lead tacky strips.  The application of the color took a little longer than I expected, but that is probably because I had never used it.  It always takes awhile to get the hang of a new medium’s character, and how to best manipulate it.  Total time was about 2.5 hours.  Here is the full tutorial…

80’s Heart Shelf Makeover

Polymer clay tile adorned shelf
Do you guys know about the Goodwill 50% off day each month?  Here in my hood, it happens the first Saturday of every month.  You will see me, hubby in tow, lined up and waiting for the store to open.  I leave with carts of things, usually wooden, that I plan to craft upon eventually.  This is one of those things.  I didn’t really have a plan.  I ended up doing a makeover on this three tiered heart shelf that involved spray paint, polymer clay (big shocker) and a harlequin decorative knob.  I made the polymer clay tags with “26.2” since my husband and I are marathon training, and every lil bit of motivation helps.  The shelf hangs in our bedroom, so we see in the morning before training runs.  This tutorial will cover spray painting, stamping in polymer clay and making more polymer clay tiles.

Polymer Clay Flower Tutorial

This tutorial is quick and rewarding.  I showed you these flowers in the previous post, where I used them as embellishments on a wall mounted key holder.  You can use them for anything.  They would look adorable on a headband or necklace.  I was amazed at how easy they are to make.  See for yourself.

Clay Flower Embellished Key Holder Tutorial

I have had this project in the back of my mind for months.  It has finally materialized, and I love it.  Today, I will cover how I created the distressed, wall mounted key holder.  The making of the polymer clay flowers will be covered in a near future post, so come back and hear the ending.

Polymer Clay Backed Glass Tile Pendant Tutorial

I love the look of glass tile pendants, but not so much the lack of backing. Most tutorials I have found have you seal back of the paper with whatever adhesive you used on the image to stick it on the glass tile. That leaves you attaching a bail to the sealed paper backing. I made one of these and the pendant bail tore the paper and came off of the piece after about a week. Bummer. How is the bail supposed to stay on there without a strong surface to anchor it? I knew there must be a better way. Check out my polymer clay backed glass tile pendant tutorial!

Polymer Clay Drawer Pull Tutorial

As promised in yesterday’s post, here is a step by step on remaking old draw pulls using polymer clay. I am showing you how to mold a sheet of clay around an entire knob, as well as a polymer clay flower attached to the top of a metal knob. Both completely change the look, and are fast and simple. No clay experience necessary. Lets go…
